2010 Consensus Statement on the Worldwide Standardization of the Hemoglobin A1C Measurement
نویسندگان
چکیده
G lycated hemoglobin concentrations (most commonly hemoglobin A1C; HbA1c) reflect time-averaged blood glucose during the previous 2–3 months and are used as the gold standard for longterm follow-up of glycemic control. Standardization with common calibration was first proposed in 1984 (1). It was only after the publication of the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) study in 1993 (2), however, that the issue of international standardization of HbA1c measurements became an important objective for scientists and clinicians. At that time, the lack of international standardization resulted in several countries developing National standardization programs; most notable of these are:

A review of the challenge in measuring hemoglobin A1c.
The attraction of the simple biochemical concept combined with a clinical requirement for a long-term marker of glycolic control in diabetes has made hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) one of the most important assays undertaken in the medical laboratory. The diversity in the biochemistry of glycation, clinical requirements, and management demands has resulted in a broad range of methods being developed si...
متن کاملStatistical methods for monitoring the relationship between the IFCC reference measurement procedure for hemoglobin A1c and the designated comparison methods in the United States, Japan, and Sweden.
BACKGROUND The American Diabetes Association (ADA)/European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD)/International Diabetes Federation (IDF)/IFCC Consensus Statement on the worldwide standardization of HbA(1c) states that "... [HbA(1c)] results are to be reported world-wide in IFCC units ... and derived NGSP units ... , using the IFCC-NGSP master equation." METHODS We describe statistical...
متن کامل2013 update on the worldwide standardization of the hemoglobin A₁c measurement.
Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) reflects a time averaged blood glucose during the previous 2–3 months, and is used as the gold standard for long-term follow-up of glycemic control. The same HbA1c method was used both in the DCCT study published in 1993 (1) and the UKPDS study published in 1998 (2). Following the development of a true reference method by IFCC (3), it was stated in an international consen...
متن کاملHemoglobin A1c to diagnose diabetes: why the controversy over adding a new tool?
Perhaps diabetes is a bit like obscenity: We know it when we see obvious cases, but it is difficult to develop one definition that encompasses the entire spectrum of disease. Hyperglycemia exists on a continuum, and persons destined to develop type 2 diabetes progress along this continuum over time, from having blood glucose concentrations that are physiologic, to those in some intermediate but...
متن کاملDiagnostic Value of Fructosamine and Glycosylated Hemoglobin in Estimating Blood Glucose Level in Diabetic Patients with Thalassemia Major
Abstract Background and Objective: Diabetes mellitus is one of complications that thalassemia major patients face with. Hence, blood glucose monitoring is of vital importance to these patients. Because of high level of fetal hemoglobin in these patients, the measurement of hemoglobin A1c is not reliable and should be displaced by fructosamine test. Material and Methods: The current descr...
